How Much Money Is Left On The Table I Wonder?

I’m staggered at the poor customer service and sales skills that I see on a daily basis.

These is so much money left on the table that it’s unreal and as a sales authority every sales person that I meet is always under the microscope.

Take last Sunday for example….

We took my wife’s Mum and Dad out for Sunday dinner last week. There were 5 of us in total.

We went to a local pub at about 1pm (peak time for a Sunday Roast) and said “Table for 5 please” we were responded with: “I’m really sorry but I’ve got nothing at all”

And that was it. There was no “It will be a 50 minute wait” or anything like that!

“We’re off” I said immediately to which my wife Donna asked the guy “How long will we have to wait for a table?”

“You’re looking at an hour for a table of 5″

At which point we left the pub and were on the way to the car….. when my wife ushered us back into the pub where we were met by someone else “Table for 5 please” asked Donna (my wife) “That’s no problem” was the reply. The lady went on “If you have some drinks at the bar we’ll prepare your table. It will be about 20-30 minutes ok?”

Guess what?

We went to the bar (An upsell)

And we actually waited only 10 minutes before a table was free!

The total bill came to over £70 which is money that would have been spent elsewhere.

How much money is left on the table?

The guy met us with a negative straight away “We’ve got nothing”

The lady understood customer service and sales. She ushered us off to the bar where we spent an additional £15 on a round of drinks (nice upsell) and she understood how long a table would be.

So get your sales hat on! Understand the dynamics of your business and understand the power of customer service!
